Gruppies and Other Tails of Puppy Gnoshing!

The puppies are eating mush!

That's right, mush! And they are loving it.

Seppe gettin' into his first mush!

Our babes are three weeks old and it is time to help Mama out with their feeding. She is eating for ten and can hardly keep up with their voracious appetites.

Yuuuuummmmmmyyyyy!

Thursday, for the first time, the puppies sampled mush, a tasty mix of water and puppy kibble. It tasted familiar to them because it contains puppy crack and Jalapeño has been eating it (as part of her diet) since she became pregnant.

It didn't take long to jump in head first.

The four boys took to the mush quickly. I was amazed to realize that their teeth had literally appeared overnight. The soft little mouths were now covered with little white razors!

Gumming and gnawing...

The girls were a little slower to get started.

There was some cautious sniffing.

But in the end, everyone partook.

In a relatively civilized push-and-shove kinda way.

Some puppies ate until they fell asleep in the mush.

The right handed graze and snooze!

The left handed graze-and-snooze.

Others managed to crawl away....

Until they ran into a puppy HEADing in the opposite direction.

And then they just snuggled...

After some half hearted licking...

Eating mush brought out the camaraderie in some of the pups.

After you, my dear.

Well maybe not in all of them...

Hey - It's a pup eat pup world!

Mush sure led to some gruppies grubby puppies.

And some grubby puppy feet! This shot is for you, lil sis!

Gruppy toes!

Some of them did help each other tidy up.

Lemme help you with that.

You have some mush in your ear too!

Others did a little stretching.

Downward puppy and flirt!

The puppies also tried water for the first time. There was some sneezing and snorting. Overall, it was a success.

Sure didn't make it far from the watering hole!

Lil Runt, who is no longer the runt, got a little water down the wrong pipe. Nothing a quick pat on the back won't solve.

It gets easier, I promise.

Other moments of cuteness.

Snoozing in the dry food when no one was looking.

And here are some cute shots of Mr. Teal, known as Ryan Gosling in certain circles.

Dinner was tasty tonight!

Can we have more later?

I won't step in the bowl next time, promise!

Stay tuned as the puppies continue to grow. I may only be able to post a couple of times a week as my full time job has started, but I will continue to photograph and share. I promise. Pup's honor!

There will be lots to see coz their worlds are starting to get bigger!

Surprise! There Are Nine of Us!

This week our pups ' universe changed dramatically. They went from revolving around a furry nipple with a big tongue to opening their eyes to a startling world of squirming, wriggly puppies.

This has led to some pretty cute interactions!

Hey, I'm Lite Green, who are you? When'd you get here?

And if a picture is worth a thousand words, what is this video worth?

And while they clearly still need Mama...

...they have tried sampling each other.

With limited success!

It has been a little overwhelming, so eventually the puppies like to take a little time to themselves.

I really need a time out. That Seppe is exhausting!

He even wears himself out!

It can be hard getting some alone time with Mama.

Where's that other Mama?

Here she is. But who is that other puppy in her arms?

Seppe and Lil Red, now known as Jamboree!

That's Little Jamboree, formally known as Lil Red. She and Seppe will stay with us. Her full name is Lady Jamboree Furia Roja Martin. Extra credit if you know where her middle names came from!

Lil Jammie

Sepper's still needs to get used to this idea.

Noooooo. Don't take the girl!

So he is going to sleep on it.

Our little lord Joseppe Baby Bean Martin.

Puppy putty!

It has also been a little overwhelming for Jalapeño.

Especially because it felt like the puppies started off lurchy a la walking dead and then rapidly turned swarmy a la 28 days.

Goodness.

So sometimes I help give Mama a break. It is a real sacrifice.

I'd rather be.......ah.....right here!!!

The puppies continue to love each other.

And think outside the box when it comes to gettin' din din!

Nipple wars!

And while it has gotten harder to get cute pictures.

Mouths! Mouths! Mouths!

It is worth the extra work!

Specially when you capture these sweet expressions!

Master Black, Miss Dark Green and our Teal...The Last Three Frills in the Puppy Skirt!

Saving the best for last!

Or not.

Coz with puppies. They are AAAALLLLLL best. That's right. Everyone gets a ribbon. Everyone wins a prize.

In cuteness. Sweetness. Loveyness. Extreme puppyness. There are not enough words.

Jalapeño sporting the latest in fashion, the puppy skirt!

Sigh. They are growing so fast. It's a knee-length skirt working on being floor-length! It sure is getting hard for Piña to move around in it!

OK. Back to serious puppy business.

Presenting Mr. Black. He was born last and was our most middle-sized puppy.

Mr. Black nuzzling the blanky.

Snoozing in good company.

Nuzzling the blanky with the other cheek (he gets this from me).

Turning the other cheek. Again! THIS he does not get from me.
Makes my neck hurt just looking at it!

He has since gained 184% of his original body weight and is now our second largest puppy after Seppe.

Showing everyone how its done. Way to gain weight Master Black!

He's just as cute on the yellow blanky!

Snoozin' after practicin' standing up.

And here we have Little Ms. Dark Green. A quiet beauty who was born third. There is no muss and no fuss with this puppy. It's all Big Island love, all the time.

With Seppe.

With Black and Blue.

With Blue, Teal and Red making a colorful puppywheel!

Even when she nurses, she is loving and sweet.

Lovin' up on Mamma's foot.

Just chillin'.

Mr. Teal is more of a talker. He was born fifth and was our second lightest-weight puppy after little Runt.

At the trough.

He has gained weight and is a solid little fella.

Even when it wasn't easy to get a good spot at the nipple.

Milk coma.

He is also very, very affectionate.

You can never get too much cuddle time.

Little Jalapeño is hanging in there with the soothing presence of One-Eye Orange in her mouth.

So many babies...

And looks forward to the day when they can all see her clearly.

One-Eye Piña!
